Project Description:

This hospital facility was built to help aid North Eastern Ontario in better serving the communities with the necessary heath care services close to home. The facility houses a multitude of services to aid patients such as radiation therapy, systemic therapy and supportive care services.

The project was comprised mainly of a structural steel superstructure with loadbearing masonry and cast-in place concrete. This project was unique in its composition since we were working within an existing facility and had to ensure the facility remained operational throughout the construction.

The project was comprised of three areas of construction. The main construction was an addition to the west end of the main floor of the cancer center with extensive renovations to the existing facility. The second area included a tower built over an existing building, primarily built out of structural steel. The third area of construction included the renovation of the existing radiation bunkers, including new lead walls, radiation treatment equipment and supporting services.
